Valves are engine components that function as pathways for air-fuel mixture intake and combustion gas exhaust. The gap distance of valve clearance affects the combustion process and exhaust emissions. This research aims to determine the effect of valve clearance size on exhaust emissions in the Mitsubishi L300 engine using biosolar fuel. The research method used is an experimental approach with valve clearance variations of 0.20 mm, 0.40 mm, and 0.60 mm. Data collection was conducted at the Periodic Motor Vehicle Testing Unit (UPUBKB) of Purbalingga Regency using a smoke tester. The research results show that valve clearance adjustment significantly influences exhaust gas opacity. The average opacity value at 0.20 mm valve clearance is 9.02%, at 0.40 mm valve clearance is 14.20%, and at 0.60 mm valve clearance is 20.10%. The 0.20 mm valve clearance produces the lowest opacity, indicating more complete combustion with lower exhaust emissions. At 0.60 mm valve clearance, the highest opacity value reaches 41.23%, which exceeds the regulatory threshold. This research concludes that the smaller the valve clearance, the better the quality of exhaust emissions in the Mitsubishi L300 diesel engine using biosolar fuel.
