Effectiveness of Road Infrastructure in Reducing Accidents Using Crash Modification Factors (CMF)

Traffic safety is an important aspect of road planning and management. This study evaluates the effectiveness of road infrastructure in reducing accident rates on Ngawi-Mantingan Road using the Crash Modification Factors (CMF) approach. The data used includes road geometry surveys, accident data from Ngawi Police, and daily traffic from the Transportation Agency. The methods used include Safety Performance Function (SPF) to predict average crashes based on traffic volume, CMF to assess the influence of infrastructure, and Empirical Bayes (EB) to improve the accuracy of crash estimation. The results of the analysis show variations in effectiveness between road segments. Segments 1 and 3 showed a 1% increase in safety, while segments 2, 4, and 5 showed negative effectiveness, indicating that road infrastructure did not significantly contribute to crash reduction. These findings emphasize the importance of evaluating and improving road infrastructure to sustainably improve traffic safety.References
