Abstract

This research examines the impact of sidewalk design and conditions on the mobility and well-being of people with disabilities on Jalan Kapten Sudibyo, Tegal City. The background of this research is the lack of attention to sidewalk accessibility for users with special needs. Direct observations show that the sidewalks currently do not meet accessibility standards, with uneven surfaces, inadequate width, and the presence of obstacles such as plant pots, street vendors, and improperly parked vehicles. A questionnaire survey involving 100 respondents revealed dissatisfaction with the lighting, safety facilities, navigation, and green spaces on the sidewalks. The research method involves questionnaire surveys, direct observations, and analysis of inclusive sidewalk design standards. The research results recommend redesigning the sidewalks to include widening the sidewalks, surface improvements, adding ramps with appropriate slopes, navigation signs, as well as safety and comfort features such as benches, greenery, and adequate street lighting. This design emphasizes the principle of inclusivity to ensure that sidewalks are accessible to all users, especially people with disabilities. These measures aim to enhance the function of sidewalks as public spaces that are safe, comfortable, aesthetic, functional, and support mobility independence for the entire community.
